Network and Infrastructure

NetrinoUK Ltd operate a multi-homed tier 2 IP network built exclusively on Cisco Systems equipment, and managed by our in-house technical team.

Core POP sites:

  • Telecity Sovereign House
  • Telehouse North
  • Telehouse East
  • Telecity Harbour Exchange 8/9

All core routing sites are equipped with Cisco 6500-series routers and carry a full BGP routing table. These sites are interconnected on our own 10GE dark fibre ring. Being dark fibre, the ring is exclusive to NetrinoUK, and relies on no third-party equipment. When comparing us to other providers, ask whether they light their own fibre between sites or whether they rely on a third party 'layer 2' provider.

Hosting sites: In addition to our core sites, we can also offer server hosting and co-location at any of our on-net data centres:

  • Telecity Meridian Gate
  • BlueSquare Maidenhead
  • BlueSquare Milton Keynes*
  • Centro (Hemel Hempstead)*
*Available from Q3 2010

Upstream Connectivity:

  • TI Net aka Tiscali International Network (Full transit)
  • Abovenet (Full transit)

All our upstream circuits are connected directly to the carrier on their own equipment through dedicated fibre connections, and at diverse sites. When comparing us with other providers, ask whether their upstream connectivity is direct, or via a layer 2 aggregator, which reduces cost but adds congestion, lack of visibility, and points of failure.

Public Peering:

  • LINX - 3 x 10GigE (at diverse sites, Sov House, Telehouse North and East)
  • LONAP - 2 x 1GigE bonded (Telehouse North)
  • EdgeIX aka MaNAP - 4 x 1GigE bonded (Telehouse North)

Private Peering

When networks are identified to exchange large volumes of traffic with us we always seek to move them to a private peer, also known as a private interconnect. We always use a direct connection, preferably on single-mode fibre, rather than going via a PI service from an exchange, to reduce potential points of failure and keep cable length as short as possible. This gives us the best possible latency, throughput and stability to the remote networks in question.

  • JaNET - 10 gbps (Harbour Exchange)
  • Virgin/NTL - 10 gbps (Telehouse East) - coming very soon!
  • Opal Telecom* - 4 gbps (Telehouse North)
  • Ask4 - 1 gbps (Telehouse North)
  • Others coming soon!
*Opal Telecom also routes traffic to Carphone Warehouse, Talk Talk and Tiscali UK.

Hardware:

Our entire network is built on equipment from Cisco Systems.

  • Edge layer - 6500 series, each fitted with SUP720-3BXL processors and 6700 series 10GigE cards
  • Distribution layer - 3750E 10GigE and 3750G GigE layer 3 switches running iBGP
  • Access layer - 3500 series and 3750 switches
